Same Typology Drama

Before jumping in to a reading of a specific topic I am not well versed in I usually go to a dictionary of sorts and find the general definition of it, with the typology reading it was no exception. I found that typology is described as "classification according to general type", also found it defined as " a study or analysis using a classification according to general type".

"... Typologist, in contrast, classify language ion terms of the forms out of which a language is composed- its sound, morphemes, syntax or discourse structure."

That is a quote from the reading "Introduction to Typology and Universals" and I felt that they provided me with the best opportunity to apply that definition to architecture. The building can be classified by its structure ( how hidden or exposed it is), by the colors it has, by the historical style, by use of light or how tall the doors are. There are many more ways to classify architecture, as explained in "Same Difference". There is such a thing as homotopic, that many of the followers of Mies van der Rohe revere, and also things like heterotopic, which is described as ordering sensibility. In the "Same Difference" it says that Mies is " against the perpetuation of old habits" and his glass house is a great example of that architecture grid he uses. Using the two essays was how the decision to use glass and a small structure came to mind, for the idea of the design that we finally decided on, Mies was one of the inspirations as well as, of course, the greenhouse which is very much in tune with our concept. The characteristics of the greenhouse are crucial in the new building's design, the enclosed space that permits light penetration and transparency, which we aspire to achieve in our design.
